A frog and a scorpion are walking together. They find themselves at a river.
"Frog," says the scorpion, "please let me ride on your back."
The frog looks to the scorpion with distrust. "Why should I?"
"Because if I sting you, it will kill us both."
The frog takes a moment to consider this. "Alright. I trust you."
And so the scorpion gets on the frog's back and they start to cross the river.
Halfway through, the scorpion stings the frog.
The frog starts to sink.
The frog turns to the scorpion.
"Why did you do that?"
"I am a scorpion and scorpions sting. It's what I do. I can't help it."
"You're right," replies the frog, "I should have known better. My trust in you was misplaced."
The frog continues to sink to the bottom of the river as the scorpion returns to the shore.
"I just can't help it," the scorpion says. "I have to be true to myself."
After a moment of silence, the scorpion turns around.
The frog is completely underwater at this point.
A faint voice can be made out from the depths of the river.
"This story is over."
The frog sinks to the bottom of the river, never to be seen again.
The scorpion returns to the shore.
The scorpion turns towards the audience.
"And that's why you shouldn't trust anyone, ever. Not even yourself."
All of a sudden, the scorpion disappears.
