An adventure session starts. The hero enters a new level. The dungeon appears deserted. There are no mobs, no items, and no players in sight. Just the hero, alone in the darkness.
The hero advances cautiously but meets no resistance. It seems the dungeon is abandoned for some reason.
The hero continues to travel through the dungeon, but to his surprise, there is not a single item to be found. Every treasure chest is empty. It is beginning to look like this dungeon is completely empty, with no rewards for its exploration.
The hero soon comes to the end of the level. He reaches out to touch the level end marker. His fingers pass through the invisible boundary. The dungeon disappears. The hero is alone in the void, with nothing but his own thoughts. Perhaps the true treasure is the friends we made along the way? Or perhaps not. Perhaps the lesson here is that the only true reward is the fun we have along the way. Or perhaps not even that.
